Last Marbles

Well I have reached that point, what point I hear you ask? Not that I can bloody hear through these sinus clogged bloody ears. I have finally begun to lose the last of my marbles.

Visually this is where I am at this moment in time:
In words, URGHHHHH!
No sleep, coughing up phlegm babies and constant headaches do that to a person. I am lucky that I have such great tutors and classmates in college, as I feel like I am contributing rain to a bonfire. I know some of you think my marbles went a long time ago, but there are a few left (just).
This is where I am heading if something doesn't happen soon!

I am seriously contemplating the whole snorting salty water thing, that a quite a few folks have recommended. Video of that anyone?

  2. i haven't done it myself, but i've heard nothing but good things about the whole salt water/sinus thing.
    i say go for it.

    p.s.
have you tried afrin, or any other straight-up (and i mean that literally) spray? i discovered them last year, and it changed my life.

  3. Perhaps you should provide masks and umbrellas to all your classmates. That green virus cloud looks ominous. I didn't know anything about snorting salty water otherwise I would've tried it long ago. Hope you get better soon.

  4. For the love of god don't do it, it sounds freaking scary...I just try the whole steaming your head over a basin of boiling water and vicks vaporub with a towel over your head to make sure you can't breathe. That tends to work for a while. Or sit in a really hot bath with savlon (and bubbles) with the doors and windows closed to keep the steam in. That always works at stopping the kids from bothering me too :D

  7. Wouldn't it be great if it were possible to have a sinus transplant? Or, say, a regular sinus vaccuuming...

And yes, I have thought about this fairly often. I am convinced my sinus takes up about 50% of the space that my brain is supposed to.

(Actually, that would explain a lot... :)

Tea, Claire. Have another tea! Sending sympathy your way.

  8. You're still plagued by this? Yikes! I remember a Tweat you did a week or two ago.

Claire, my wife has narrow sinus passages and so suffers a lot more than me from these kinds of things. One big help for both of us is the neti pot. Indeed, I've got to start using that again regularly as a preventative thing. It works wonders. And once your sinuses are a little bit functional, you can watch water going in one nostril and out the other. Just don't laugh at the same time.

  9. That whole sinus washing with salt water is messy and can be nasty, but it truly does help. If you're suffering so badly, I say give it a try. Can't make it any worse, right?

  10. This video is a good one on how to do it with some excellent advice regarding the temperatures to use for maximum comfort.

I was really apprehensive about trying it but it was amazing. I credit it with reducing the length of my last head cold by several days. That sort of thing usually takes a week to run its course for both Brian and me. It took that long for him, but I knocked it out in 3-4 days. He was too wimpy to try the irrigation thing like I did.

  11. Oh dear! I do hope you recover quickly, my dear.

I always find that several stiff drinks sort me out. After that, I am too drunk to notice I am any longer ill!

  14. I've never heard of that cure but I suppose if you're desperate enough anything's worth a try. Hope it works x

  15. You poor kid, it just never stops, does it? Have you tried Mucinex? Would that help cut down on the phlegm??

  16. My poor Claire! :( I say go for the Netti Pot. And record it. Or let us watch on your webcam. :) ha ha ha...never mind. But just do it and tell us how it works, k?

  17. I've used the Neti Pot, and although it wasn't that great for me, a lot of people really find it helpful. Don't forget to do the 'get all the water out of your sinuses nose blows' at the end. If watching water pour out a nostril doesn't crack you up, the massive blowing of water out afterward will!

Has the pressure of your sinus headache started pushing pus out of your tear ducts yet? That was my FAV symptom this year. It stuck my eyeballs shut every night. Cool.

Good luck dear. I use Zantac prescription antihistamine and if I double dose it, it will dry things up, briefly. Snot is evil.

  18. I'd recommend the Mucinex Dm - helped me a lot - still working on the cough and some drainage too but it's lessened here a lot anyway. Hope yours does the same too - and fast! It really is a very yucky feeling, isn't it?

  20. Are you talking about those pots that look like a teapot without a lid. My husband tried it the last cold he had an now swears by it. He got it in a health food store.

  21. Have you researched a neti pot yet?
Seriously, your sinus cavities need some saline irrigation.

  22. I am ordering a neti pot! Thankfully the sinuses are somewhat better, but I am getting one anyway.

I really appreciate all the advice and well wishes :)

Also I may still do a video :)
