  3. I can handle them if I'm not too hungry. Claire, you didn't munch your wasabi ball in one bite did you?

  4. Oh goodness, now I feel like a snob. I've been using them since I was five. Mom dragged me to a Chinese New Year's dinner when I was that tender age during which she extended a pair of chopsticks towards me with the words, "Here, honey, try the octopus!".

This has now become a life motto. When in doubt about a new adventure, "Try the octopus".

  5. I love using chopsticks. Both MWM and I were complimented by the waitress in the chinese restaurant on how well we did with them! Just bragging!

  6. I'm fair with them. Claire my dear, why don't you use a darn fork? I would have loved to watch you try to eat with chopsticks. Okay all of us would! I'm not sure we would want to hear the cussing, but watching would be good.

Hey, I heard you were over at Sarge Charlie's lurking? Is this true Claire?????

  9. I am the bearer of bad news, my dear. My son's mastering them, and #2 isn't that far behind.

    Better get going.

Oh, and sushi is acceptable finger food.

  10. Lived in Singapore as a kid and used them all the time, even to eat rice! Lost the knack now; Lynn's a whizz with them though.

  12. I have enough problems, create more than an adequate amount of extra laundry from trying to manipulate a fork, spoon and knife. White sweaters, tee tops, blouses no longer are part of my wardrobe due to the many stains from foods - always the kind that won't wash out or have extra oily substances in them - and which always land directly on -of course - my bosum area. There is no such thing as being discreet then.

  13. I can do chopsticks but I don't think I use them properly. Most of the food makes it to my mouth.

  15. I like to use them with sushi...but not much else. Sushi is big enough to squeeze onto. I can't do rice with them, though. I really think that you either got it or ya don't with chopsticks!!

  16. when in doubt, use your fingers..

Ha. They do take a bit to get used to, I prefer to stick with the fork, spoon, and knife.. :)

  17. I love sushi and yes, I can use chopsticks...though it took a long time. Rice is still a bit tricky, but if it's sticky enough I can do it!!

I love me some wasabi. Mmmmm

  18. I hate chopsticks! My hubby can use them with precision...I fling stuff everywhere. It is embarrassing to ask for a fork when you are in a trendy Japanese restaurant....grr.

  19. Chopsticks are easier than other utensils once you use them --I started so young i don't recall when i learned-- Just keep eating mindfully and practicing at home with a nice pretty pair!

  20. The trick is to relax and not grip too hard--I tried to teach my niece but she uses her fork like a shovel, iron grip--so it is hard for her to hold the chopsticks--she grips them too firmly.

  21. Well it looks as if most of you can do it! curses to those of you that can, beaten by a child!
I am glad at least that some can share in my misfortune.
Yes i would just use a knife and fork, but like Shannon if you go to a nice restaurant its embarrassing to ask for them.

I would also like to travel to the far east, so will have to practice, thanks for the tips.

Regards to the wasabi, i was using the paste stuff and i put an awful lot on one piece, it nearly blew my head off!
