Thursady Thirteen number 14

Thirteen Things about I have learnt about blogging
and what makes people like your blog.Well it's sort of a blog review/what i have learnt.
  1. HTML otherwise known asHyperText Markup Language . This is the strange computer language that your blog is written in. It Scares me! I have had to tackle it a few time! The most painful was installing mr linkies and the Read More Hack. But if you read things carefully (and save your template first) it is not as hard as it first seems! I would recommend both. Feel free to ask me more about it! I will do a post on how did it (if i can!)
  2. Friends, A rather pleasant side effect of blogging! My sidebar lot are friends of mine now. OK some more than others, i do have a few weird ones of there (you know who you are)
  3. Lurkers, Do you visit a blog and never comment? guess what you are a lurker! I don't mind if you lurk here, sometimes you just don't have anything to say! I know i lurk quite a bit sometimes. Feel free to tell me off, if you spot me! at my Happy 100's posts i have a unique way of 'outing' lurkers as some of you know! Some of my lurkers fit into this category:The "perverted lurker" is a person who watches online discussions for the purposes of sexual arousal.
  4. Site Stats, Who doesn't like to know how many visitors they are getting and where they come from! I also use mine for Happy 100's posts and keeping an eye on lurkers. I use Site Meter and Clicky.
  5. Money! pay per post, blogvertise, sponsored reviews are just a few i am trying out. This is not for everyone but i recommend you think about it.
  6. Photographs are a great way to let your visitors see a bit of your world, they may not be interested in the other stuff you blog about.
  7. Hiking is something i have grown to love and i like keeping a track of what i have done, also its nice that so many of you that visit here, seem to really enjoy the places i go.
  8. Counselling, my counselling studies are the reason i started a blog, its a great idea to blog about something you have a passion for.
  9. Comment Ho, this was a term i hadn't heard of before! but Chris is my mentor in this. Follow this link and see if your guilty? I am! Comment Whore
  10. British Slang, something else i have a passion for! you big bunch of minging chavs! Light hearted posts never hurt anyone.
  11. Answer your comments! When people take the time to leave you a comment and or question make the effort to answer them. I know you cant do it all the time, but make an effort to try!
  12. Memes. When i first started blogging, i had no idea what a meme is! Now i do Manic Monday, Wordless Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, Friday Feast and Saturday Photo Hunt. I blame Skittles
for sucking me into the world of memes!
  13. Tags, your it! I have a love/hate relationship with tags! I love to HATE them. OK i don't really, but i do feel guilty if i get tagged and don't do them (yes i have been tagged and yes i haven't done them yet!)

Hey while your here, why not hop over and vote for me at the bloggers choice awards! Just click on button near the top of my sidebar. Love You!

  2. I can't believe I've been using the computer so long and STILL am clueless about HTML. I didn't even know what it stood for, until today.

  3. Site stats are good till you find your cross segmenting your popular content by referals against time, goal conversion and page per visit and understand what it means well enough to write a book on it. Then you've gone too far and will receive the title "Stato" ;-)

  4. I love blogging! Can't get enough of it.

    Check out my TT

  7. I have to admit that HTML drives me insane, but because of this I have learned a lot! (because I won't let it go until I figure out how to work it!) :) Happy TT to you!

  12. Great list. I've learned a lot of HTML since I started blogging several years ago. And I am guilty of being both a lurker and a comment whore at times. :-)
    Happy TT!

  13. HTML still scares me. A great Thursday Thirteen list....THURSDAY O.M.G. where did this week go!

  14. I guess one is never too old to learn -- I had never heard of a comment ho.

My TT is also posted --not nearly as educational as yours!

  15. Great list. I checked your link and verified that I'm not a comment ho - unless you count joining the "exercise for comments" group as whoring yourself out and shameless self-promotion ;)

  16. Very good list! :)
We both do the same Memes.
I love learning Brittish slang as well. I like to use it on my hubby as he has no clue to what I'm saying. ;)

  17. Good list! I like the "comment ho." At first I thought it was Brit slang, and then I realized I understood you! Thanks for sharing it.

  19. I learned a few things today! Thanks. And I'm a big fan of site stats, too.

  20. Blogging is definitely a learning experience. There's always something else to learn (or decide, after some thought, that you really don't need to learn that particular skill).

    ReplyDelete
  21. HTML and I have a love hate relationship, kind of like the one I have with sleep. Congrats on your nomination.

  22. I learned some things I didn't know, so thanks. I need to look in to some of the things you talked about.

And can I just say that I am bowled over by the photograph of Loch Brora. Gorgeous.

  23. O-k-a-y...since I'm am a relative newbie when it comes to the inner-workings of all of this, when I discovered the wonderful world of widgets and had to figure out what to do to get one...Now to go see if I'm a "ho."
Great post, Claire - I think I voted for you? If not, I'm sorry!

  24. Cheeky mare!

Comment ho? I haven't won trophies for it unlike someone I could mention.....

  25. Great list!
I have to admit I like to lurk around sometimes because I'm too afraid to comment. Umm... I'll try to be braver in the future :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. No clue about HTML here either. I can't even figure out how to change the banner on my blog!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You have learned a lot in a short period of time Clair, Especially the lurking part..........smile

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great list, although I haven't a clue what you're talking about when you get technical - HTML, stats and such!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Great list on blogging.

Decided not to do a Thursday 13 today, but stop by anyway. Felt like concentrating on pretty instead so went with Lord Byron.

  30. Hi
Good post, it's folks like you and my youngest daughter who I get my info from.

    ReplyDelete
  31. HTML is not as scary as it used to be. Though not as easy either. And can a man be a comment whore?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Isn't blogging great?! :)

    Happy TT!

  33. Just lurking today, Claire... I see I didn't loch out on my guess of which lake you'd photographed.

And your sister's hat is very nice -- although I prefer my Guinness in a pint glass, please.

And "minging chavs." Hmmmm. After a little research, I believe you just called me an amoral drunkard. I'll have you know I'm very moral. No, wait, that didn't come out exactly right....

And (attempting to be slangy myself) I would have "totally bought it" if you'd tried to spin a Loch Ness Monster tale. Really!

  34. Your post is great, and hits the nail on the head! (do you have that expression across the pond?)

  40. I love memes and feel so special when I am tagged for one. I really have enjoyed the virtual friendships I have formed blogging.
    Great TT

Be well and enjoy the day

  41. In the words of Arte Johnson of the old Laugh-In show - "Veddy interesting." Yep, this Thursday Thirteen was veddy interesting, indeed.
I still haven't figured out widgets and sidebar stuff or how to stretch my blog across the page and oh, lots and lots of other things about blogging. But I really do enjoy it, most of the time anyway. Except when people who actually know me read my blog and get ticked off at things I say because they don't take the time to really follow what I really said. Stirs up a hornet's nest at times, that does.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thank you for that list. I've only been blogging rgularly for a few weeks and I see I have a lot to learn.

I tried using HTML for my TT a couple of days ago. After several hours of weeping and wailing I gave up and went outside to kick trees.
