Thirteen things for camping

Thirteen Things about Camping
I am off camping on Friday for the weekend

1. A tent! Just bought one today, no idea how to put it up though. So that should be fun (not).
2. Sleeping Bag, there are many many types of sleeping bags. I have probably got the only one that leaves you freezing!
3. Teabags and Coffee, both will be useless if i cant figure out how to use a camping stove. It will be good old Yorkshire Tea and instant coffee probably nescafe.
4. Camping Stove, never used one of these before, i hope i don't burn down any trees!
5. Map, needed for the hike on Saturday its a big mountain with some scary scrambly bits.
6. Lantern/Torch needed for late night loo (toilet) visits.
7. Blow up Mattress, i don't do well on bumpy ground.
8. Fold up chairs, needed to flomp into after we put the tent up.
9. Cider, needed before, during and after putting the tent up!
10. Big Socks, needed to keep my feet warm in the tent.
11. Cake, a nice bit of homemade cake to keep ones strength up.
12. Beans, by beans i mean baked beans the campers staple diet food.
13. Common Sense, but i will probably leave this at home.

Pictures and posts about this weekend's camping will be up next week sometime.

  3. I'm not much of a camper, although I'm sleeping a night in a tent about once in 6-8 weeks. :-)
My TT shares 13 things to do or see in my hometown Velsen / IJmuiden in The Netherlands.

  7. Sounds like a sensible list, but I've ever been camping so I can't really think of anything else. How about a book or game to pass the time? Ipod? Maybe I've got the wrong idea!

  15. First thing I thought when I saw "beans" was a rhyme we used to say:
"Beans, beans the musical fruit. The more you eat the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel. So, let's have beans with every meal!"
However, if you are sleeping in a close tent with another camper...that might not be so good...Have fun.

  18. happy TT! i'm not a great know-it-all camper, but i have camped over the years. i don't know where you're going camping but i have 2 recommendations. #1 a hat to keep your head warm... it could get really cold at night. #2: smores!! and at a bare minimum marshmallows... roasting marshmallows HAS to happen!!

  19. I suppose in Britain you don't need to hang your backpack up in the trees to keep the raccoons or bears from getting at your food (?) or visiting your site (?)

The last time I went camping I left my common sense at home and our food was attacked by a pack of savage raccoons...and we considered ourselves lucky, having hit the bourbon a bit too hard. (This was when I was MUCH YOUNGER, naturally).

  20. Surprised to see the cider so far down the list!...lol Used to love camping when the kids were young. After a couple of years we bought a really "posh" tent with 2 sleeping compartments and a little kitchen area. Have a great time :o)

  21. I always admire campers who break out the tent and everything.

If there's not a cabin or an rv, I'm not going. Too much the city gal.

    Have a great time. :)

  24. We went camping for a week in august too. It was the first time for me. With a tent anyway. I had been on campings before in a caravan. After surviving a 3 day storm with high gails and rain, the weather went better lol. It was quite an adventure. Also for my 3 kids. They had never camped before either. They already asked when we're going back heheh.

  26. I got to tell you claire, I tried to do another comment like last week but you choice of words sucked this week, just so you know....... what kind of story could I do with this, the only funny part was when you were blowing up the mattress, oh well, maybe next week....

  27. Are you sure you don't want to just get a motel room somewhere? Oh wait...no, *scenes of Vacancy running through my head*...nevermind. Have fun camping!

  28. I hope you're not sharing a tent with anyone considering the only food you're bringing is beans!

They're the musical fruit, don't ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hope it didn't rain on you since you didn't get a chance to seal those seams on the new tent...

Can't wait to hear how the adventure went!
