Out of the Cupboard into the Hospital

Well the Cupboard Monster (The Mother) is back in hospital for the time being, twas inevitable that she would end up back in.
I returned from house sitting yesterday for a short while before going out again to a wedding fair and when i got back the other sister was here. Shortly after that one of my Uncle's arrived and it was agreed that she needed to go back in. A phone call was placed with the surgical ward that the mother was on last week and they said to bring her in right away.
So i accompanied the mother in the ambulance and thought we would be swiftly seen in the A&E department before getting sent up to a ward (this was at 6pm). BOY WAS I WRONG! The mother was allotted a lovely spot in the corridor as there were no cubicles, because there were other 'very sick' people there (yes a nurse really said that).
After telling the nurses that my mum needed to use the toilet and no she couldn't walk, i was annoyed that it took them so long to sort out a cubicle. I wonder how long they would wait to use the toilet before getting pissed off literally. Anyway she was eventually sorted and the doctor saw her after waiting a lovely three and half hours, but he was lovely (hot) and things got moving a fraction quicker then.
The Mother needed x-rays and a line putting in, the x-rays to see if the sickening crack was a bone breaking and the line for fluids. These lovely tasks where completed then onto the medical assessment area, where folks are left to fester. Fast forward to 2am and the mother is eventually admitted to hospital officially, gets the steroids/fluids and leg plastered as a fracture had shown up on the x-ray.
I got home about 2:30 in the AM, less than impressed with the NHS! The Mother now has to surgery on the leg, a few screws and she will be sorted. The photo at the top of the post is the lovely tool they used to insert the femoral nail, i just thought i would share that with you.

Joke time: You should always inject a bit of humour into your life even when it's a bit shit, so here's a joke.

Have you heard about the lady who went to the hospital to visit a friend?
She had not been in a hospital for several years and felt very ignorant about all the new technology. A technician followed her onto the elevator, wheeling a large, intimidating looking machine with tubes and wires and dials.

"Boy, would I hate to be hooked up to that thing," she said.

"So would I," replied the technician. "It's a floor-cleaning machine."

Also Internet connection is still shit :(

  2. Aw...I'm so sorry! We spent time like this with my hubman's mom. It's the most aggravating thing in the world because you're just stuck. Why can't they get it right the first #$%^&*()@ time!
Our present experience included 27 doctors on the team - they never did figure out what caused the problem~! Where's House when you need him???

  3. Wow! Your Mum doesn't do things by half does she? Hope she's soon on the mend (again). You take care of yourself too, the carer also needs a little TLC x

  4. Hope this all turns out well Claire. I hate hospitals and you really explained why. Get some rest and get your homework done. :)

  5. Well if it is small comfort, the hospital closest to where I live seems to thrive on keeping people there in the examining area of the emergency room for a minimum of 6 hours before they even start to do anything -and this is with the er not filled to the brim with other patients either. Frustrating, just very frustrating it is. Maybe they do that to make the patient feel the number of hours spent waiting makes their outrageous bills for services rendered worth it all. I dunno. Just hope your Mum gets things memded properly this time around - and that you figure out what in bloody blue blazes is wrong with your internet provider too!

  7. Oh no! Your poor Mum! Hospitals over there sound like ours - we have stories on the news about people being put in linen closets while they wait for hours!!

And more surgery?? Give her big hugs from Canada for me... and you make sure and get lots of rest!!
