Angry Beaver (assistant leader)

WARNING HEAVY USAGE OF THE WORD BEAVER!
Yes I am an angry assistant beaver leader today! Linda our illustrious leader did not drop off the finger puppet template meaning I could not do anything to it. Yet again we will be distinctly under prepared compared to the other packs. I have a feeling she does this on purpose to gain attention for herself, which is fine for her, but it is me and my sister that have to run round after the little ones.
I had many a good idea, and even went as far as creating our very own beaver mascot.
Click read more to see him!

Say hello to my beaver: Bede. He is called Bede, as our pack is the 4th St Bedes.
I am rather pleased with how he turned out, but he will not make it to finger puppet status tonight.

What is really strange about her behaviour is that she restarted the beaver section in this pack, as she wanted to be in charge? I really don’t understand her at all. Well it’s the fun day tonight and as well as our pack there is also four more, so that’s 60+ beavers to entertain and all we will have is crappy finger puppets! I will let you know how it goes.

I successfully survived crappy finger puppet fun, luckily for our illustrious beaver leader, who for some reason wont accept her official title of brown beaver (or grey was my suggestion). The other packs where equally under prepared and everything was a bit rushed so in fact crappy finger puppets weren't so crappy in the end.

Beavering Away

As it is the year of 100 years of scouting, next Tuesday we are having another beaver fun day. This is when all the local beavers get together and each group has to be in charge of an activity.
This loosely has to be based on scouting, so some are setting up tents, another is making woggles. Great for those groups, but we have a rather erm lazy beaver leader and she is awful when it come to being creative! I hope nobody is laughing at the beaver’s references, remember this is a children’s group! So her idea is to make paper beaver finger puppets, using a basic template which the kids colour in. I thought that was rather boring and have started to get the grey matter into action.
I was thinking of a more creative version, with pre cut out hairstyles, neckties, woggles and jumpers. So that way the kids get to totally customise their own finger puppet to make it more like themselves.

This of course means I now have 60 of everything to find and cut out!

Nits Anyone?

Image Hosted by <span class=
Working or volunteering to work with children is a great thing and i genuinely believe its one of the best things i have ever done.
Unfortunately it does involve some problems, the constant 'why' questions, little accidents and NITS! otherwise known as Head Lice.
My eagle eyed sister spotted them on one of the children and quickly informed us. This causes us a dilemma, because you can't actually say to a parent your child has nits, you have to inform them that a case of nits had been found and can you please check your child. Even if you know no other child has nits, all parents must be told this. I think the reason behind this is because Nits has a stigma attached to it. But if people where more informed they would know that nits prefer clean hair not dirty hair, which a lot of people believe.

Have you ever had nits?
Yes
No

I am not perfect, i did inwardly cringe and immediately want to scratch my head. So i have checked my hair and i am clear, but tonight i will be sleeping with conditioner in my hair.

Centenary Camp

Yesterday's beaver adventures was a lot of fun and i am glad i got off my arse to go. The above image is one of my favourites. It is my nephew along with the other kids waiting to go on the assault course, i love having a digital camera.
It was the Centenary Camp for Widnes and the North West, to kick off the celebrations for 100 years of scouting. Keep on reading for more photos and fun!

The Cubs and Scouts were camping over for the whole weekend, with the Beavers allowed to join in the fun on the Saturday.
They first tackled Archery, which was a long wait but i think the kids enjoyed it. There is always one kid doesn't want to wait and another kid that doesn't know whether they are left or right handed. Which is important because one doesn't want an arrow hurtling in the wrong direction.
Here's Ewan showing how it is done. I didn't have a go because i am not sure whether i am left or right handed ( otherwise known as i would be crap), Jemma (older sister is good at that sort of stuff).
Then we headed over to the assault course which was funny to watch as it is really built for the bigger kids, so it was a bit of struggle for some of the kids to climb up and over. We only i had one kid crying, so i class that as a result!
Feeding time for the kids and me! i was starving. We got to eat our packed lunches in the main camp for cubs and scouts. That's some of the beavers, my sister and beaver leader Linda in the background. For some reason Linda doesn't like her official title of Grey Beaver, i don't know why?
As this camp is more geared towards the older kids in Cubs and Scouts, there wasn't much left for the kids to do. Thank God for bouncy castles! No i didn't have a bounce, i have learnt my lesson and there where too many children that could of been hurt!

Just before the talent show we had a small ceremony, to remember Hilary a cub leader that sadly lost her battle to cancer this year. In memory of her we released 100 balloons in our colours. I didn't know Hilary myself but my sister did, so it was a very sad moment, as we watched the balloons drift off higher and higher.
The day ended on a fun note with a talent show! Now i normally cringe at this thought of thing, but i have nothing but admiration for the kids that get up and have a go. The first Kid was going to dance for us, but nerves got the better of him. Then we watched a puppet show, magic tricks, circus tricks, human dog show (very strange), human ventriloquism (even stranger). An unbelievably talented violin player and a lad singing.
But then!
Yes 100 years of scouting comes to this!
I jokingly posted this in previous post but the truth is much funnier! Some leaders have a yearning to get up in front everyone and make a plonker out of themselves.

Hope you enjoyed my Beaver Adventure!

Christopher Lodge Found!

He may of told his wife and children he was at a motivational blogging convention, but i have my spies in Scotland and they followed him here!

Neglected Beavers

Image Hosted by <span class=
With being ill and college work, i have neglected my beavers. For perverts who laugh at this name (OK i do too) or folks that don't know what i am talking about, click here Beavers to find out what i mean. To elaborate more, i am training to be an assistant beaver leader(i know some of you are laughing). It looks good on your CV and its nice to help with the kids.
So today i am off on a fun day as part of Scouting 2007 which should be fun. I don't even know where the event is? i have just been told to be ready for 12.

So when i get back, i will tell you all about it.
